LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico Department of Transportation has released its weekly traffic report outlining multiple road construction and lane closure projects scheduled across Doña Ana County through early May, with motorists advised to expect delays and use caution in active work zones.
Among the major projects affecting drivers in the Las Cruces area is ongoing construction on Interstate 25 between Las Cruces and the Village of Doña Ana, where crews are replacing guardrails and installing concrete barrier walls. Lane closures remain in place in both directions, and some sections may require round-the-clock restrictions as work continues through late summer. Speed limits have been reduced throughout the work zone.
Additional impacts are expected along University Avenue, also known as New Mexico State Road 101, where a multimodal improvement project continues between Avenida de Mesilla and South Main Street. Only one eastbound lane remains open in that area, while westbound traffic is being detoured to West Union Avenue. Construction is expected to continue through the fall of 2026.
City officials also report continued reconstruction work on North Melendres Street between Hadley Avenue and Picacho Avenue, where through traffic is not permitted. Detours and signage are in place to guide motorists around the work zone, with completion expected in early May.
Motorists traveling throughout Doña Ana County are reminded to slow down, obey posted signs, and remain alert for heavy equipment and construction crews, as conditions may change without notice.
