LAS CRUCES – Casa de Peregrinos is reminding residents that the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive will take place next Saturday, May 9, offering a simple way for the community to help families facing food insecurity.

The nationwide event, organized in partnership with the National Association of Letter Carriers, encourages households to leave bags of non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes. Local letter carriers will collect the donations during their regular delivery routes and deliver them to area food banks.

Organizers say the Stamp Out Hunger campaign is one of the largest single-day food drives in the country and plays a critical role in keeping local food pantries stocked heading into the summer months, when demand for assistance often increases.

Casa de Peregrinos staff recently delivered official Stamp Out Hunger shirts to local mail carriers as they prepare for the event. Community partners, including United Way of Southwest New Mexico and Nusenda Credit Union, are also supporting the effort through volunteer coordination and outreach.

Residents are encouraged to donate items such as canned vegetables, beans, pasta, rice, cereal, and other shelf-stable foods. Glass containers and perishable items should not be included.

Organizers say even a single bag of food can make a meaningful difference for neighbors in need across the region.
