LAS CRUCES – A 35-year-old woman was killed late Tuesday night after being struck by a freight train while walking along railroad tracks in Las Cruces.
According to Las Cruces police, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, to the railroad tracks near Brown Road after receiving reports that a southbound BNSF train had struck a pedestrian.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released her identity pending notification of her next of kin.
Following the collision, the BNSF train came to a stop and temporarily blocked several intersections while officers conducted their investigation.
The incident remains under investigation.
