LAS CRUCES – Heavy rainfall over southwestern New Mexico during the weekend caused flooding and hazardous conditions on several roadways, prompting a response from New Mexico Department of Transportation maintenance crews.
According to NMDOT District One, crews responded to areas along NM 146 and the Interstate 10 frontage road where they encountered downed trees, flowing water across roadways, debris, and damaged fencing.
As conditions continue to improve, maintenance crews will spend the coming days clearing debris, repairing fences, and restoring affected areas.
Motorists traveling through the impacted areas are urged to use caution by slowing down, watching for changing road conditions, and remaining alert for maintenance crews and equipment working along the roadway.
NMDOT also reminds drivers never to attempt to drive through standing or flowing water. Drivers should obey all road closure signs and traffic control devices and allow crews plenty of room to work safely.
