LAS CRUCES – A 67-year-old woman remains in critical but stable condition after a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning at the intersection of El Paseo Road and Farney Lane in Las Cruces.
According to the Las Cruces Police Department, officers and fire personnel responded to the crash shortly before 9 a.m. on July 14. The woman, who was driving a Nissan Juke, became trapped inside her vehicle and had to be extricated by Las Cruces firefighters.
She was transported to a Las Cruces hospital before being airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso, where she remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Investigators said the Nissan Juke was traveling west on Farney Lane and crossing El Paseo Road when it was struck on the driver’s side by a southbound Honda Accord driven by a 20-year-old woman.
The driver of the Honda was also transported to a local hospital with what police described as relatively minor injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate one of the vehicles may have entered the intersection against a red traffic signal. Investigators also determined the 67-year-old driver of the Nissan was not wearing a seatbelt, which police believe likely contributed to the severity of her injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
