LAS CRUCES — The City of Las Cruces and Mesilla Valley Hospice & Palliative Care will sponsor a Memorial Day Candlelight Ceremony honoring fallen soldiers from Doña Ana County.

The annual ceremony will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, May 25, at Veterans Memorial Park, 1251 N. Roadrunner Parkway in Las Cruces. The event is open to the public.

Organizers say the ceremony will honor 204 fallen heroes from Doña Ana County whose names are listed on the Veterans Wall at the park. The names include area service members who died in conflicts dating back to World War I.

Lorraine Padilla, CEO of Mesilla Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, said Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices of local service members. She said the park provides a meaningful place for the community to remember those heroes.

This will be the 13th year Mesilla Valley Hospice has hosted the annual Memorial Day remembrance event. Veterans Memorial Park includes tributes to men and women of the U.S. military, including those who served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam, Operation Enduring Freedom, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Mesilla Valley Hospice & Palliative Care says it is a gold-level supporter of the national “We Honor Veterans” program, as well as the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
