LAS CRUCES — Law enforcement officers from throughout Doña Ana County took part in the 2026 Law Enforcement Torch Run on Friday, May 8, in support of Special Olympics New Mexico.
Officers from the Las Cruces Police Department and other southern New Mexico law enforcement agencies participated in the run, which ended locally at Albert Johnson Park in downtown Las Cruces.
The torch then continued its journey north to Albuquerque, where the Special Olympics Summer Games are scheduled to take place May 29 through May 31.
Law enforcement personnel from the area participate in several events throughout the year to support local Special Olympics athletes. Those events include the annual Torch Run, as well as Tip-A-Cop fundraisers.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run is designed to raise awareness and support for Special Olympics athletes and their families.
