LAS CRUCES — A free car seat fitting station will be available to the public from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at Sisbarro Buick-GMC, 425 W. Boutz Road.

The event will provide parents and caregivers with hands-on assistance from nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians, who will offer guidance on the proper selection, installation and use of child safety and booster seats.

Inspections will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointment is required.

Participants are encouraged to bring their car seat, the car seat manual, vehicle manual and, if possible, the child who uses the seat. A $35 fee may apply for replacement seats, and children must be present to be eligible.

At the event:

  • Technicians will spend about 30 minutes per seat educating parents and caregivers on proper selection, installation and use of car and booster seats.
  • Participants will learn about common car seat safety errors and have an opportunity to ask questions.
  • If a seat is determined to be recalled, expired or otherwise unsafe, replacement seats will be available.

Fitting stations are funded by the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division and are available to the public.
