LAS CRUCES – Parents and caregivers can have their children’s car seats inspected during National Seat Check Saturday this weekend in Las Cruces.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26, at Las Cruces Elks Lodge No. 1119, located at 3000 Elks Drive.
Technicians will check whether each seat is appropriate for the child and show caregivers how to install and use it correctly. Event organizers say three out of four car seats are used incorrectly.
The inspection service is free and funded by the New Mexico Department of Transportation. The Elks Lodge is sponsoring the first 20 car seats. A replacement fee of up to $35 may apply if a new seat is needed.
The child and the child’s current car seat must be present to be considered for a replacement.
