LAS CRUCES – Motorists traveling through Las Cruces, Doña Ana County, Sunland Park, Chaparral and the Truth or Consequences area should prepare for lane closures and construction activity during the week of September 6 through September 13.
On Interstate 25 between Las Cruces and Doña Ana, J-H Supply Company will continue replacing guardrails and installing concrete barrier walls from mile marker 6 to mile marker 14.2. Lane closures and traffic controls will remain in place around the clock in both directions, and speed limits will be reduced throughout the project. Crews are scheduled to work Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Farther north, Mountain States Constructors will continue reconstructing Interstate 25 between mile markers 70 and 85, extending from Truth or Consequences toward Cuchillo. Northbound and southbound lane closures will be in place for guardrail replacement, milling and paving. Reduced speed limits will be posted. Work is scheduled from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with possible weekend work.
In Sunland Park, Cutler Repaving will begin rehabilitating NM 273, also known as McNutt Road, from the Texas state line to mile marker 6, approximately one mile south of Santa Teresa. Work will affect northbound and southbound traffic, and reduced speed limits will be in effect. Crews will work from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
Motorists traveling between Hatch and Deming should also expect daytime lane closures on NM 26. Hasse Contracting Company is completing crack sealing, fog sealing and the installation of centerline rumble strips between US 180 in Deming and Hatch. A pilot car will guide traffic through the work zone in both directions. Work is scheduled from 6:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, with possible weekend operations.
The centerline rumble strips are part of the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Target Zero initiative. They are intended to alert inattentive motorists who drift across the centerline and help reduce head-on and crossover crashes.
In Las Cruces, motorists should expect intermittent lane closures at the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walnut Street from Tuesday, September 8, through Friday, September 11. A Mountain Professional Construction will be completing roadway and traffic-signal improvements at the intersection.
Another major project is scheduled to resume later in the month. Beginning Monday, September 21, FNF Construction will restart reconstruction and widening work on NM 213 and NM 404 in Chaparral.
During the first phase, crews will work along the west frontage road of NM 213, construct temporary detour pavement between the new bypass route and NM 404, and begin building the flyover. This phase is expected to continue for approximately eight months, through April or May 2027. The full project is expected to continue through the summer of 2028.
Regular working hours in Chaparral will be from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, although longer hours and weekend work may be necessary. Because NM 213 is a major commuter route, the contractor will work to minimize traffic delays.
Motorists are asked to reduce their speed, obey all posted signs and use extreme caution around construction workers and heavy equipment. Double fines for speeding may be imposed in active work zones. Schedules and traffic conditions may change without notice.
