LAS CRUCES – A new exhibition exploring immigration, identity and the pursuit of the American Dream will open October 2 at the Branigan Cultural Center in Las Cruces.
“Unalienable,” created by El Paso-area multimedia artist and arts educator Angel Cabrales, will remain on display through February 6, 2027.
An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 2, with Cabrales in attendance.
The exhibition takes its inspiration from the Declaration of Independence and its promise of unalienable rights, including life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Through large-scale, three-dimensional works, Cabrales examines the experiences of migrants who come to the Borderlands in pursuit of the American Dream. The immersive pieces explore the challenges migrants face, their achievements and the continuing struggle to build a better life.
Cabrales’ work frequently examines Latinx identity, immigration, inequality and the ways those experiences are represented within American culture. He incorporates a variety of materials, artistic styles and new technologies to address modern social and political issues.
The Branigan Cultural Center is located at 501 North Main Street. It is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Admission is free. The museum is accessible from Roadrunner Transit Route 1, Stop 1.
